"Growing up in a country where rules are made to be broken made me a forward thinker. I don't expect to change the world of design; I simply want to change peoples' perception of conventional objects"

– Lorena Gaxiola

Passion, humour and a keen sense of the world imbue the inspiration behind internationally-acclaimed interior designer Lorena Gaxiola.

As a cross-disciplinary designer, Lorena Gaxiola has an eponymous design practice with works expanding the global markets. Born and raised in Mexico, Gaxiola uses memories from childhood and heritage as expressions throughout her work. In the 1990s, Gaxiola moved to California where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and launched her successful creative design firm in 2000.

A guiding principal in Gaxiola's work is the art of creating value, quality and beauty. Her studio manages design works on varying scales that allow exploration of both the poetic idea and pragmatic solutions. Her projects are approached in a holistic manner, combining the disciplines of architecture, interiors, product design and graphic design. Each project draws on the founder’s experiences to create new ideas and outputs, emphasising qualities of construction, detail, materials and light, and transforming the mundane into performative living environments.

After two decades of witnessing emotional disconnect between her clients and homewares in the interior design industry, Gaxiola shifted gears from interior design and expanded into the world of home furnishings.

Sparked by her vision to connect others with otherwise conventional objects, today, Lorena Gaxiola continues to evolve as a lifestyle brand, animating what is now Meaningful Objects for the Home. “Our purpose is to help people feel empowered,” says Gaxiola. “We want our customer to surround themselves—their homes, offices, spaces—with objects that truly mean something to them on a personal level.

Redolent with motifs of water, owls and crystals and symbolic of spiritual elements that articulate messages of positivity, the collection encourages balance for the mind, body and soul throughout. Every detail, from daring patterns and expressive hues to the finest of material and sourced manufacturers, is mindfully used, and every design comes with a purpose, one to be shared and enjoyed by all.

Trained by major US retailer Macy’s Inc ‘The Workshop’ programme, Lorena finally launched her collection in the USA in 2013 with successful reviews, entering the market with some of the top homewares retailers in the US. After a decade of gracefully balancing work and life between San Diego and Sydney, Lorena boldly decided to permanently relocate to Sydney and brought her entire homewares collection and her interior design consultancy business with her.

Like her homewares, her interiors strive to create holistic spaces for clients who seek to express meaningful individualism within a specific environment. Gaxiola often partners with architects and developers around the globe from the US, China and Australia to lead, manage and consult as creative director in the areas of Interior Design and Interior Architecture. Her recognised consultancy business and line of homewares have been featured in a variety of publications worldwide and her expertise continues to be in high demand in the residential, commercial, retail and hospitality industries.
